Austin was born in Davenport, Iowa where his mother was in publishing and his father was a police officer. A farm boy at heart, he spent his summers tending cattle and bailing hay on the family farm that has been in his family for over a century. Prior to starting his career, Austin attended the University of Iowa before transferring to University of Colorado at Boulder, where he earned a degree in Economics.
2022
In partnership with TimeToBreakthrough.org and TekLadder.com, Austin launched an IT training program for previously incarcerated persons. Building a career that can support the individual and their family financially, is one of the leading factors in lowering rates of recidivism. The goal of the program is to help those who have paid their debt to society, rejoin the community successfully and lower (or eliminate) their chances of returning to incarceration. The program is designed to take individuals with zero technical background and qualify them for an entry level IT position, in less than 4 months.
2021
Technology consultant to Boone Farms (BooneFarmsllc) and Founder of Block Listing Technologies, Inc (BLT). BLT is the first online auction-place for legal, wholesale cannabis. It allows state-licensed operators to both buy and sell wholesale cannabis online and provides a suite of tools to facilitate the compliance process.
2019
Founded a development company called VP Health Systems that is focused on solutions for the independent pharmacy industry. VP Health builds technology that networks independent pharmacies to help them compete with the CVS and Walgreen’s of the world. The technology allows pharmacies to access customers beyond the traditional boundaries of their physical storefronts.
2009
Austin turned a side-project called UsedTunes.com, into the first ever “used” marketplace for secondary digital copyrights. UsedTunes essentially allowed users to resell the eBooks and music they bought off of sites like iTunes, just like people used to sell used CD’s. Borders Bookstores later attempted to acquire UsedTunes in an effort to revitalize their distribution model.
2005
Founded an online, travel-focused company called TravelFli.com . TravelFli was focused on managing loyalty programs for airlines, hotels, and credit cards, with the goal of making them more accessible for consumers. The company was later accepted into the TechStars accelerator program and was part of the second ever graduating class in 2008.
2003
Started a second company called SOL. SOL was a salon and retail store, tailored to students on “The Hill” in Boulder, just a few hundred yards from the University of Colorado campus. At the time, it was the largest salons in Colorado and one of the busiest by volume.
2001
Started a transport company called Together Tours that provided transportation to college sporting events and other locations, so that students had an alternative to drinking and driving. It received acknowledgement and support from the University of Colorado, as well as Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).
